ISSUES OF REPRESENTATION
Abstract of the Dott.Alessio Lo Giudice's talk
This presentation deals with theories of institutions and present political practices in the light of the institutional representation of democracy. The analysis underlines the real risk that present institutions of the representative democracy are running of remaining procedurally legitimate but theoretically unfounded, because they have been deprived of the capacity to represent a general interest. Following this view, the new forms of deliberative and participatory democracy, or the new models of horizontal democratic governance, could be effective in improving the legitimacy of a single political act, but they are likely to fail in dealing with the crisis of legitimacy of democracy as an institutional form.
